We sat down with Taylor Miller, designer and founder of Hazen & Co. to chat all things jewlery. At the ripe age of nine Taylor developed her unique design style and dove into the design world after repurposing her grandmother’s costume jewelry as new creations. We love her use of color and texture, available in both our Nantucket and Charleston stores.
How did Hazen & Co. get started? The Hazen story began in 2002 and was very much a hobby that developed into a business. I began making and selling jewelry at the age of 9, held my first trunk show at Oxford Floral in Mississippi at the age of 10 and attended my first Atlanta Market at the age of 12. Throughout middle and high school, I continued selling my product to stores, and as a freshman at Southern Methodist University, I decided to pursue Hazen fulltime following graduation. Today, the Hazen line is represented in over 200 stores around the country!
What is the inspiration behind your brand? To cultivate joyful, inspired living! Often, this occurs through the utilization of bright pops of color with unexpected color combinations and stones with unique textures and shapes. I strive to make products that are easy to wear and make a woman feel feminine, show-stopping and special.
How does being based in Dallas effect your designs? Dallas is a hub for great design, be that in fashion or interior decorating. The opportunity to drive around beautiful neighborhoods with thoughtful home details and then head to lunch and see how everyone is expressing their take on the most recent trends through their clothing definitely stimulates my creativity.
You sell in both Charleston or Nantucket, did you curate your collections differently? Yes, we do! We actually get the entire Dallas office together to decide what we think is most appropriate for each location’s clientele!
How would you describe your own personal style? Feminine and classic with a twist of the unexpected!
Give us a style tip for your brand? Layer, layer, layer. We love to combine unexpected colors to make fun statement bracelet stacks. Also, you can never go wrong with an Anne lariat layered with a simpler dainty chain. Basically, the more the merrier!
What is your favorite stone or material to work with? Oh, it’s so hard to decide! Recently, it would definitely be pearls. A pearl’s ability to light up a woman’s face when designed in an earring or necklace is unbelievable! It almost instantly puts a twinkle in her eye!
Who do you love on Instagram right now? Posts from the Chelsea Flower Show. With the show directly following the Royal Wedding, I’m on a total flower high!
What trend are you loving this season? Stripes of all shapes and size!
If we came to visit you in Dallas where must we go? There so many fun spots. If you’re here in the spring, definitely swing by the Dallas Arboretum for the most incredible tulip display. And if you need a divine lunch spot with great people watching and even better food, head to Bistro 31 in Highland Park Village. Neither will disappoint.
Favorite Beach? Rosemary Beach, Florida
Favorite Food? Definitely blueberries.
